Seven foreign coaches lead Egyptian football teams
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 09 - 2019

Seven football clubs in the Egyptian Premier League appointed foreign coaches to lead their teams in the football season 2019/20, which has yet to start. Serbia has the lion's share with three coaches in the new season, while four clubs selected coaches from Switzerland, Greece, France, and Brazil.
Most recently, Al Ahly has announced reaching agreement with Swiss René Weiler for a €2.2m one-year contract, along with four foreign assistants. The contract included a three-month penalty clause on both sides, which would be null and void if the coach failed to win both the Premier League and the CAF Champions League.
For its rival Zamalek, the White Knight contracted the Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević, simply known as Micho, for one season with a salary of $70,000 per month and $30,000 for his three aides. The contract includes a penalty clause of two months' salary if terminated.
Meanwhile, Pyramids selected Sébastien Desabre to lead the team for two seasons, with three foreign assistants. The financial value of the contract has not been disclosed.
Serbian Miodrag Ješić took over the technical leadership of Ismaily, with a monthly salary of $24,000, in addition to $5,000 for his assistant.
In the new season, Tala'ea El Gaish SC will be coached by the Brazilian Sérgio Farias. The coach is best known for winning the AFC Champions League with Pohang Steelers of Korea, and qualified for the Club World Cup in 2009 and finished third. He also won the Campeonato Sul Americano (U-17) in 2000 with Brazil.
El Gouna this season, like Zamalek and Ismaily, preferred the Serbian coaching school. The club signed Nebojša Milošević and his assistant Vladan Perašević, while Wadi Degla decided to keep his Greek coach Takis Gonias for a second year after the team performed well in the last season.
The remaining 11 teams in the league selected Egyptian coaches, namely Ehab Galal with Al Masry, Talaat Youssef with Al Ittihad Alexandria Club, Hossam Hassan with Smouha, Ali Maher with Enppi, Emad El Nahhas with Al Mokawloon Al Arab, Tarek El Ashry with Haras El Hodoud, Ahmed Hossam "Mido" with Misr Lel Makkasa, Ayman Al Muzain with Tanta, Mokhtar Mokhtar with El Entag El Harby, Magdy Abdel Atty with Aswan, and Osama Nabih with FC Masr.
