Egypt is set to receive 15,000 doses of anti-body medicine that will be added to the ministry's COVID-19 treatment protocol, Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed said during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The medicine in question has proven efficient, owing to its ability to reduce the intensive care entry rate by 79 percent to 90 percent, and lowering the mortality rate by 95 percent to 98 percent.
During the cabinet meeting, Zayed also showcased the ministry's vaccination efforts.
"The number vaccination centres have increased from 580 to 657, and the number of foreign travel offices from 134 to 145," she said, adding that "mega vaccination centres" are being prepared in Assiut and El-Sharqia. Egypt has so far administered over 6.4 million vaccine doses.
Employees of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have already been registered for vaccination, and students will soon be registered for vaccines by their respective university hospitals. Every college hospital will establish a fixed vaccination unit inside, the medical crews will be provided if units are unavailable, along with the necessary supplies and vaccine registration systems.
Raw materials for the local manufacturing of vaccines at Vacsera factories will be imported all throughout the year, with the gradual release of 5 million doses starting in September. Egypt is set to receive multiple shipments of vaccines including Johnson and Johnson, Sputnik, Pfizer, Moderna, and Sinopharm.
Zayed also highlighted the CDC's statement that vaccines lower hospital admissions and death rates, in light of the emergence of the Delta variant.
