Egypt reported 765 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total infection tally to 270,292 since the outbreak began in February 2020. The health ministry also reported 34 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 15,471. As many as 800 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 198,632. Egypt, since early June, has been recording single-day tolls of coronavirus new cases below the 1,000-mark, reversing the upward trend in positive cases in the two preceding months. Health Minister Hala Zayed said earlier on the day the occupancy rates at isolation hospitals nationwide are on the downward curve as the pandemic's third wave has begun to recede. Egypt has started its vaccination campaign late in January starting with medical workers. Since then, more than 3.5 million citizens have received the vaccine until early on Sunday, health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed told Al-Hayah TV on Monday.
