Man City's Muslim Toure refuses post-match prize of alcohol Ivorian Muslim Yaya Toure's refusal of the prize of a bottle of alcohol prompts the English Premier League officials to reconsider the award
Manchester City forward Yaya Toure caused debates Sunday afternoon when he refused to keep man of the match award, which consisted of a bottle of alcohol. The Ivorian scored twice against Newcastle to make his side the firm favourite to win the English Premier League (EPL) title ahead of their last round next Sunday against Queens Park Rangers. Toure was handed the man of the match prize which was just a bottle of alcohol but he gave it to team-mate Joleon Lescott saying 'I don't drink because I am a Muslim, so you keep it.' The Premier League is considering changing the 'prize' considering the religious and national diversity of its players that combine 68 nationalities. City are in the driving seat of the EPL with 86 points, same as runner-up Manchester United but City have the upper hand of a goal difference.
