Egyptian Bahgaga troupe will perform at Cairo's Zamalek Theatre on Friday 23 April. Founded by an Egyptian composer and oud player Ayman Helmy in 2015, Bahgaga fuses songs with light acting, presenting the repertoire in a humorous manner. Presenting Arabic songs in a unique way, Bahgaga incorporates a well-known format which was popular in Egypt from the 1920s to the 1960s. Focusing on comedy music monologues - resembling comic skits - Bahgaga tries to bring back a form of a valuable entertainment that was coined by the Egyptian leading comedians, such as Ismail Yassin (1912-1972) and Mahmoud Shokoko (1912-1985). "Bahgaga's goal is to add fun and laughter to people's hearts and make them forget all the troubles the days bring to them," reads the Facebook event posted by the band. Most of Bahgaga's songs are composed by Helmy, with lyrics either taken from well-known poems or written by the musician himself. Programme: Friday 23 April at 9.30pm Zamalek Theatre, 26th of July street, Zamalek, Cairo For more arts and culture news and updates, follow Ahram Online Arts and Culture on Twitter at @AhramOnlineArts and on Facebook at Ahram Online: Arts & Culture
