Egypt sent on Thursday a new batch of medical and food aid to Lebanon under as part of an air bridge launched last summer to aid the country deal with the repercussions of the massive blast at Beirut Port in August that killed hundreds and displaced over 300,000. According to an official statement, the Egyptian Embassy in Lebanon said the air base at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport received a military jet carrying supplies from the Egyptian Armed Forces to its Lebanese counterpart. Yasser Elwi, Egypt's ambassador to Lebanon, said the aid shipment included medicines and medical equipment to meet the needs of the Lebanese armed forces. He added that the aid also included food assistance to support the army's key role in maintaining stability in Lebanon. The ambassador added that the assistance comes under Cairo's commitment to support Lebanese state institutions. The new aid shipment comes nearly a month after Egypt sent 31 tons of medicine and medical supplies to Lebanon to help the country's health sector deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The last aid shipment from Egypt to Lebanon included 16 tons of baby formula and 15 tons of virus protection supplies, including surgical masks, gloves, and coronavirus protocol medication.
