TP Mazembe beat Sudanese Al-Merreikh in CAF Champions League Congolese champions TP Mazembe are closer to reaching the CAF Champions League's quarterfinals after a 2-0 home win over Sudanese side Al-Merreikh on Sunday
TP Mazembe is a comfortable position after a 2-0 win over Sudanese rival Al-Merreikh during the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 16 on Sunday. Despite dominating the first half of the match, Mazembe scored only one goal thanks to midfielder Samagoal, who sent a deft header into the net after a corner from Tresor Mputu. The in-form-striker Mputu doubled the seal for the hosts in the 70th minute, scoring his fourth goal in the competition. Following this good result, Mazembe's mission in the second leg, scheduled in a fortnight in Khartoum, will not be so difficult for the 2009 and 2010 CAF Champions League winners.
