Three out of four Egyptian clubs qualified for the group stages of their respective African football club tournaments. Abeer Anwar reports on the winners and one loser Ahli and Ismaili qualified for the mini-league stage of the Orange CAF Champions league. Shehab Ahmed scored from a thunderous volley in the 94th minute to give Ahli a 3-2 fairytale win against Ittihad of Libya who had blanked the Egyptian champions 2-0 at home a fortnight ago. In Cairo Stadium on Sunday, the first half ended goalless after all of Ahli's attempts to score were fruitless. It was not Emad Metab scored Ahli's first goal on the 59th minute that Ahli fans relaxed a bit. Teammate Mohamed Fadl headed the tying goal in the 74th minute. Just when it appeared the teams were headed for an ultimate penalty showdown, teenager Shehab Ahmed charged from the backfield to unleash a pile driver from 35 metres out to make Ahli the winners 3-2 on aggregate. "It's the best goal of my life," said Shehab, a rookie. "It was also an unforgettable one as it made my team the winner. It was a decisive one. I'm so happy to have been able to score the winner." "This was the most difficult match in my life," Ahli's first-year coach Hossam El-Badri said. "It was a very crucial game and everybody was pinning their hopes on Ahli. The Egyptian president's son, Alaa Mubarak, attended the match and afterwards congratulated the players. Egyptian giants Ahli thus confirmed their place amongst the elites of African football, qualifying for the mini-league stage of the Orange CAF Champions League alongside compatriots Ismaili, JSK Kabylie (Algeria), Heartland FC (Nigeria), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Esperance (Tunisia), Entente Setif (Algeria) and Heartland (NGR). Cafonline adds: former winners Ismaili completed a double over Sudanese giants Al-Hilal with a 3-0 victory to cruise on 4-1 on aggregate. The Egyptians came from behind after Edward Sadomba had shot the visitors into the lead on 27 minutes. Mohamed Homos, Ahmed Farag and Ahmed Khairi then added three without reply. Holders TP Mazembe kept their defence aspirations on track with a 3-0 win over Malian side Djoliba AC thanks to a brace from Alain Kaluyitkua Dioko and the other from captain Tresor Mputu Mabi. Elsewhere in Luanda, Angolan champions Petro Atletico managed a 2-1 win over JS Kabylie but the latter progressed 3-2 on aggregate. David Malgalhaes and petit winger Ricardo Job scored for the hosts while Mohamed Aoudia grabbed a crucial away goal for the Canaries. Algerian champions Entente Setif maintained an impressive run, managing a 2-2 draw in Lusaka against Zanaco of Zambia. Entente Setif were cruising to victory after goals by Nabil Hemani and Lazhar Aissa had neutralised Makundika Sakala's opener, before Kennedy Nketani levelled for the Zambians five minutes from time. Zimbabwean torchbearers Dynamos cut short the campaign of debutants Gaborone United of Botswana, managing a barren draw in Gaborone to advance 4-1 on aggregate. In Omdurman, Tunisian giants Espérance pulled a surprise 1-1 draw against Al-Merrikh to march on 4-1 on aggregate. An own goal by Conolese-import Janvier Bokungu gave the Sudanese giants the lead at half time but Wjadi Boauzzi drew parity seven minutes from recess. Striker Ahmed Abdel-Ghani scored a hat-trick whilst Ahmed Mekki grabbed a brace with Emmanuel Okwi netting a consolation for the Tanzanians. Twice winners CS Sfaxien of Tunisia beat Egyptian debutants Petrojet by a lone goal to advance 2- 1 on aggregate. Chadi Hammami scored the only goal of the match eight minutes from time. Former African champions Enyimba produced one of the major comebacks in continental club football to seal their place at the next round of the tournament. Trailing 0-3 from the leg, Enyimba overturned the result with a 3-0 win in normal time before edging out Congolese-outfit AS Vita Club 9-8 on penalties. Surprise-packets AS FAN of Niger maintained their impressive run by managing a barren draw in Kinshasa against another DR Congo side Motema Pembe to advance 1-0 on aggregate.The losses leave DR Congo without any representative in the second-tier continental club championships. The biggest casualty was holders Stade Malien, who could only settle for a 0-0 drawn game with visiting FUS Rabat of Morocco. The latter advanced 2-0 on aggregate. In Harare, CAPS United beat Warri Wolves of Nigeria 2-0 courtesy of a goal in each half from Nyasha Mushekwi and Leonard Tsipa to progress 3-2 on aggregate. Former Algerian champions CR Belouizdad were the first to qualify for the next round after beating Sudanese side Al-Amal 2-0. Soufiane Mebarki scored after 13 minutes before Seddik Beraaja sealed victory on 76 minutes as the CR Belouizdad marched on 2-1 on aggregate.
