Mputu's hat-trick gives Mazembe 6-0 Champions League win Striker Tresor Mputu shines as Mazembe qualify for the Champions League last 16 with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Zambia's Power Dynamos
Tresor Mputu scored a hat-trick as Mazembe thumped Zambia's Power Dynamos to reach the African Champions League round of 16 on Sunday. Mazembe, who were expelled from last season's competition after fielding an ineligible player in a preliminary round game, went through with a 7-1 aggregate win. The 2009 and 2010 Champions League winners grabbed the lead after nine minutes, thanks to a goal from Zambian midfielder Rainford Kalaba. Mputu, who returned from a 12-month suspension in August last year, doubled the lead in the 21st minute and forward Given Singuluma further widened the gap with a brace before the end of the first half. Mputu converted a penalty six minutes past the hour mark to add the fifth before completing his hat-trick with a 72nd-minute goal. Mazembe will face Al-Hilal in the round of 16 after the Sudanese giants defeated Central Africa's DFC 9th Arrondissement 8-1 on aggregate.
