Egyptian actor to face three months in prison for defaming Islam The famous comic actor Adel Imam will face a three-month prison sentence and fine for insulting Islam and its symbols
The famous Egyptian comic actor Adel Imam will be facing a three-month sentence with labour and a 1000LE fine for defaming Islam. Judge Mohamed Abdel Aty issued the sentence on Tuesday. The case against Imam, who was convicted of the charges in February, was filed by Asran Mansour who accused the actor of offending Islam and its symbols, including the Hiljab– a loose fitting garment worn by some Muslims – and beardsin his films Morgan Ahmed Morgan, Al-Erhaby (The Terrorist) and Hassan and Morkos and the play Al-Zaeem (The Leader). Imam is considered Egypt's biggest film star with 40 years of box office hits and plays under his belt. A case was also filed against scriptwriters and directors Wahid Hamed, Lenin El-Ramly, Sherif Arafa, Mohamed Fadel and Nader Galal.
