Head of Egypt Actors' Syndicate not threatened by Adel Imam case
Legal measures are being taken by syndicate legal counselors to defend comedy actor Adel Imam sentenced to three months with hard labour for defaming Islam

The head of the Egypt's Actors' Syndicate, Ashraf Abdel Ghaffour, has made assurances that a three month sentence handed down to veteran comedy actor Adel Imam for defaming Islam does not pose any threats to artistic freedoms in Egypt, as Imam is not guilty of this accusation.
Abdel Ghaffour said that the syndicate's legalcounselor is taking legal action, especially as other syndicate members, writer Lenin El-Ramly, scriptwriter Wahid Hamed and director Mohamed Fadel, are also defendents in the defamation case.
Imam has been sentenced to three months in jail with hard labour and a LE1,000 fine for offending Islam and its symbols, including the Jilbab – a loose fitting garment worn by some Muslims – and beards, in the film Morgan Ahmed Morgan and the play Al-Zaeem (The Leader).
