Light to heavy rainfall forecast in Egypt next week
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 11 - 2020

Mild to heavy rainfall is forecast in several parts across the country for the coming six days starting Friday, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said on Thursday.
The EMA forecast that Greater Cairo is to witness light rain in certain areas on Friday.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected to fall in some areas in Egypt's northern coast, including Alexandria, Rashid, Baltim, Damietta, Port Said, El-Arish and Rafah.
Moderate rain is expected to hit some areas in Lower Egypt, including Kafr El-Sheikh, El-Beheira, Daqahlia, Gharbiya, Sharqiya and Menoufiya.
As for Saturday, more moderate rainfall is expected in some areas of the northern coast, including Alexandria, Rashid, Baltim, Damietta, Port Said, El-Arish and Rafah.
Northern areas of Lower Egypt are expected to see light to moderate rain, including Kafr El-Sheikh, El Beheira and Dakahliya, the EMA added.
On Tuesday, some areas of the northwestern coast are to see light to moderate rainfall, while light rain is expected to fall down in northern areas of Lower Egypt.
The statement said all preventative measures should be taken during next week to mitigate the negative impacts of the expected rainfall.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has earlier called upon governors to be prepared to deal with the anticipated heavy rainfall, especially in coastal governorates, as the country heads into winter.
In the last two weeks, many governorates across the country - especially those along the coasts – were hit by deadly unstable weather, which caused flooding and damaged at least two buildings in Alexandria, resulting in six deaths and several injuries.
Schools and work were suspended in some governorates due to treachorous weather conditions.
