Angola name Romeu Filemon as interim coach New coach will take over Angola but will also remain in charge of League side Primero Agosto until the appointment of a permanent candidate
Angola on Monday appointed Romeu Filemon as interim national coach while it searches for a permanent replacement for Lito Vidigal, who left last week after poor results, the state news agency Angop reported, citing the head of the football federation (FAF). "Afterwards, Filemon will hand over to the next coach, with whom we are already negotiating," Angop cited FAF President Pedro Neto as saying. Neto did not provide any names, but said the next coach could be from Brazil, Uruguay or one of the former Yugoslav countries, Angop added. The FAF last week said the results and performances of the national team at January's African Nations Cup, where they were eliminated at the first stage, had made Vidigal's position untenable and so his contract was terminated by mutual consent. Filemon, 45, will coach the Palancas Negras (Sable Antelopes), as the national team are known, while also remaining in charge of Primeiro de Agosto, currently third in the Angolan league Girabola, with 14 points from seven matches. Angola are currently involved in qualifying rounds for next year's African Cup of Nations to be played in South Africa and for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
