Release of trailer for film Mafkoud: On the fate of those who went missing during the Lebanese civil war
Published in Ahram Online on 21 - 10 - 2020

MAD Solutions, a Pan-Arab cinema-based fully integrative marketing company, released the official trailer of 'Mafkoud', a feature film by Lebanese director Bachir Abou Zeid.
According to MAD Solutions, the film's release has been recently postponed, following the temporary closure of all cinemas across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the reopening of cinemas in June, Abou Zeid's debut feature is soon expected to be released across the Arab world.
The press release accompanying the trailer's release clarifies that 'Mafkoud' sheds light on the fate of those who went missing during the Lebanese civil war.
Commenting on this director Zeid states: “After the end of the war in Lebanon, the fate of thousands of Lebanese people became unknown. This tempted me to pose the question: As she waits for his return, how does a mother remember her lost son? The last time she saw him, what did he say? The color of his socks before he left? The time of his return? How long did she wait? And how many times did she run to the door thinking that he came back?"
"I met a woman during my research for the film, she told me how much she was waiting, and that she reached a point where she would rather hear the news of the death of a loved one, rather than live in suspense, not knowing their fate," he added.
Director and screenwriter Bachir Abou Zeid graduated from Lebanese International University and received a bachelor's degree B.A. in communication arts, with emphasis on Translation and Interpretation.
He also graduated from the University of west London with an MA degree in Filmmaking with an emphasis on directing. Recently, Abou Zeid founded Beirut Film Institute, a production company that aims to produce short films as well as feature-length films.
His film, Kalash, which was done as his Master's thesis, is a one shot 30-minute war drama.
To date, the film has participated and won awards in more than 15 International film festivals.
