Award-winning documentaries at the CFCC
The French Cultural Centre (CFCC) is holding a series of documentary films

The French Cultural Centre is screening some of the award-winning films for the 2010 International Documentary Film Festival in France (Cinéma du Réel) from 16 till 19 January.
Two documentaries not included among the winners of Cinéma du Réel, Bruises and Living Skin, will be screened on 23 and 24 January respectively at 7 pm.
Geld Hay (Living Skin) is 49 minute Egyptian documentary directed by Fawzy Saleh, which won the jury prize at the Abu Dhabi film festival. It delves into the lives of the children working in tanneries and the health risks that they encounter on a daily basis.
The films will have either English or French subtitles:

Grandmother directed by Yuki Kawamura (Japan, France)
Winner of the short film competition
The film tackles the idea of death and the notion that it is a prelude for a better life. It begins and ends with scenes of the sea.
48 directed by Susana de Sousa Dias (Portugal)
Winner of the Grand Prize in the competition
The film discusses the 48 years of dictatorship of Salazar in Portugal. Through photographic images, it relays the stories of those who were politically imprisoned.
17 January at 7 pm:
Vous étes Servis directed by Jorge Leòn (Belgium)
Winner of the special mention award
It follows the journey of a group of girls emigrating from the far-east and dreaming about a better life, yet encounter a sense of misplacement upon their arrival.
18 January at 7 pm:
La Quemadura (The Fire) directed by René Ballesteros (ChileFrance)
Winner of the the Joris Ivens award
About a fire that burned down a publishing house along with documents about the reign of the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
19 January at 7 pm:
Winner of the Louis Marcorelles award
Port of Memory directed by Kamal Aljafari (Palestine, France, Germany, United Arab Emirates)
Alijafri documents the reaction of his family when they are asked to evacuate their home in Ramalah.
