Preview: Zamalek looking for consistency in fight for second place
Published in Ahram Online on 29 - 08 - 2020

Zamalek will be looking to end their stuttering form in the Egyptian Premier League when they face Enppi on Sunday as the race for second place, which earns qualification for the African Champions League, intensifies.
The White Knights produced a fine counter attacking game to down runaway leaders Ahly 3-1 last week, which gave them a morale boost and raised hopes that they could even have a chance of challenging for the title.
However, they were stunned following a 2-1 defeat by 10-man Arab Contractors after their vulnerabilities at the back were exposed as they pushed forward in search of a winner, ending their title hopes and raising alarms that they could even fall behind in the race to finish second.
Zamalek cannot afford to slip up when they meet Enppi as they lie third in the table with 42 points, three behind second-placed Pyramids, whom they face in the next round.
Contractors are also in the race for a runners-up spot as they lie third with 40 points.
Zamalek's French coach Patrice Carteron is missing his regular full-backs through injury, with their absence affecting the team's defensive and attacking display against Contractors.
Natural central defender Mohamed Abdel-Ghani failed to make an impact when he replaced Hazem Emam on the right, while Abdallah Gomaa is yet to replicate his impressive form of last season as he continues to deputize for the veteran Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, who faces several months out.
Enppi, who are having a relatively good season, are sixth in the table with 30 points from 22 games.
