Egypt will resume flights at all Egyptian airports with countries that have opened their airports as of 1 July, the country's Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar announced, according to state news agency MENA. Egypt's health minister said earlier this month that the Egyptian tourist destinations have recorded the lowest numbers of coronavirus cases, unlike greater Cairo, which has the lion's share of infections. Egypt suspended international flights on 19 March in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus. It has since only allowed its airports to open to domestic, freight and special repatriation flights. The government has so far allowed a limited number of hotels to operate at a reduced occupancy rate after adhering to safety protocols. The move is meant to revive its key tourism sector, which has been hit hard by the virus restrictions. The permitted occupancy rate of the reopened hotels was initially set at 25 percent, but was increased to 50 percent earlier this month.
