The United Nation Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted the outcome report of Egypt's universal periodic review (UPR) at its 43rd session in Geneva on Thursday, which highlighted the state's "constructive and committed cooperation" with the international recommendations and pledges. The UNHRC had submitted 373 recommendations spanning five main areas of human rights during Egypt's UPR session in November. The member states praised Egypt's efforts and response to most of the recommendations. The report considered Egypt as one of the most cooperative states in the council, after it submitted five comprehensive reports concerning childhood and the right to housing and responded to the vast majority of working group inquiries on enforced disappearance and economic and social rights. It rated the Egyptian government as the council's most powerful member, as it had undergone the UPR for a third time. Earlier, the Egyptian delegation to the UNHRC session responded to all the recommendations concerning the human rights situation in Egypt. According to a recent report issued by the UNHRC, Egypt has reviewed its mechanism to implement the recommendations, mainly via the announcement of the establishment of a national committee made up of all concerned state bodies and other nongovernmental ones to follow up on the implementation process. The UPR is a mechanism by which the UNHRC reviews the human rights condition of member states every four years.
