While wishing its readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Al-Ahram Weekly is already out on newsstands with its year-end special edition (26 December 2019 - 8 January 2020). During the last year, uncertainty has been heaped upon uncertainty. Protracted conflicts persist, from major global disputes to local wrangling, while populations are left to worry about their future. The sudden flare-up of protests in several Arab countries was shocking, especially for successfully removing from power their respective leaders. For many this new wave of protests is Arab Spring Part 2. What have we learned in 2019? We need only to look at the recent past to see what 2020 holds in store. Al-Ahram Weekly writers try to explain in this special end-of-the-year issue this is a historic turning point, which requires new thinking about the region. The issue includes an outline of 2019's highlights in Egypt and the region. The special edition ensures to provide plenty of food for thought to its readers on domestic, Middle East, international, culture and sports issues.
