A late goal from Mohammed Habib helped Ghana to a 1-1 draw with Cameroon in their opening game of the U23 African Cup of Nations in Cairo on Friday. Franck Evina, 19, scored a beauty to give Cameroon the lead in the 59th minute, his curling free kick nestling into the top corner of the net. Chances were hard to come by for Ghana but they still managed to share honours when Habib struck home from close range three minutes from time after a deflected long ball found him. Egypt top Group A with three points after beating Mali 1-0 earlier in the day. Cameroon and Ghana have one point apiece. Michael Cheukoua could have fired Cameroon ahead in the first minute but his deflected shot went just over the bar, marking the only highlight of a drab first half. After Cameroon went ahead, they wasted two chances to ensure the victory in the latter stages of the second half. A low shot from Brice Eteki narrowly missed the target before Eric Ayuk missed a sitter, firing wide after going clear on goal. Ghana's only real chance fell to Owusu Kwabena in the 77th minute when his angled curling effort went just wide, but Habib made amends to secure a share of spoils.
