Ranim El-Welily reached the semi-finals of the Women's World Championship after compatriot Nour El-Tayeb retired in the quarters on Tuesday. El-Tayeb retired after three minutes while El-Welily was leading 7-0 in the first game. In the semis, World number 1 El-Welily will face the winner of Nouran Gohar's clash against England's Sarah-Jane Perry. Meanwhil, Egyptian player Hania El-Hammamy (14) will have a tough mission in the tournament's quarters on Wednesday when she faces World number 3 Camille Serme of France. Also on Wednesday, world number 2 Nour El-Sherbini will take on Joelle King of New Zealand.
