Egyptians living abroad began voting at diplomatic missions worldwide Friday in a referendum on constitution amendments passed by the parliament earlier this week. Voting abroad will take place in 140 polling points at Egyptian embassies and consulates across 124 countries, Egypt's foreign ministry spokesman said on Thursday. Polling stations are open from 9am to 9pm, local time, on each of the three election days. New Zealand was the first country to open its doors to voters late on Thursday, Cairo local time. Egyptian authorities have scheduled three days of voting starting Friday for expatriates, and Saturday for Egyptians at home. Egypt's foreign ministry has published photos of voters queuing to cast their ballots and others holding the national flag at the Egyptian embassies in Dubai and Riyadh.
