CAN round-up: E. Guinea spring first shock as Senegal bow out
A brief round-up of the African Cup of Nations fifth matchday in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon
Published in Ahram Online on 26 - 01 - 2012

Best Player: Ahmed Saad (Libya)
The veteran striker, 37, kept alive Libya's hopes of booking a last-eight berth after scoring a brace in the 2-2 draw with Zambia.
He needed five minutes to open the scoring with a low shot from inside the area after breaking clear of defence before restoring Libya's advantage in the 48th minute with a clinical close-range finish.

Best goal: David Alvarez (Equatorial Guinea)
Alvarez sent the home fans into raptures after firing a stoppage-time winner that helped the tournament co-hosts defeat Senegal 2-1 and qualify for the quarter finals.
On a rain-soaked pitch, the 27-year-old defender unleashed a fierce right-foot drive that left Senegal keeper with no chance.

Brief overview
Senegal became the first shock casualties of the Nations Cup after losing their second successive game, despite being deemed one of the favourites to lift the trophy.
They boast one of the most formidable frontlines in the tournament but their poor defence once again let them down, allowing Equatorial Guinea to expose the fragile backline and claim a last-gasp 2-1 win.
Libya fought hard on a water-logged pitch to hold a lively Zambia side to a 2-2 draw and stay on track for a quarter-final place.
Catch of the day: overhead kick
Emmanuel Mayuka set up Chris Katongo for Zambia's precious equalizer against Libya in superb fashion.
His overhead kick found the Zambia captain at the far post to nod in and give Zambia a valuable draw.
