Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang arrived at Luxor International Airport on Saturday for a one-day tour of the historic city before meeting with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo on Monday. The Vietnamese president is scheduled to meet Luxor Governor Mohamed Badr as well as lawmakers to ink a tourism cooperation protocol between Vietnam and the Upper Egyptian governorate. Quang was received at the airport by Badr and other Egyptian officials, as well as a delegation from the Vietnamese embassy in Egypt and senior security leaders in the governorate. This is the first visit to Egypt by a Vietnamese head of state since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1963. In September 2017, El-Sisi travelled to Vietnam in the first-ever visit by an Egyptian president to Hanoi, according to state news agency MENA. The two leaders signed nine memorandums of understanding in a number of economic fields during last year's visit by the Egyptian president. Quang will also meet with parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal on Monday.
