Egypt squad to fly to Kuwait Wednesday for World Cup test
Published in Ahram Online on 23 - 05 - 2018

Egypt's World Cup squad is flying Wednesday to Kuwait where the Pharaohs will take on the hosts in a friendly match on Friday as part of their preparations for the gigantic competition.

On Monday, Egypt kicked off their final training camp for the World Cup that will get underway on 14 June in Russia.

“Twenty-seven players were available for the national team's second training session on Tuesday night,” the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said in a statement via its Facebook page.

On 13 May, Egypt's Argentinean coach Hector Cuper announced a 29-man squad for the final camp. However, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Aston Villa's Ahmed Elmohamady aren't yet available as they still have commitments with their clubs.

Cuper's men will take on Colombia in the Italian city of Bergamo a week after their warm-up game in Kuwait, and Belgium in Brussels on 6 June.

Late March, Egypt lost to Portugal and Greece in two friendly matches held during their first training camp in Switzerland.

The seven-time African champions, who have reached the World Cup for the first time since 1990, have been drawn in Group A at the World Cup alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Egypt will kick-off their World Cup campaign on 15 June upon locking horns with Uruguay, four days before facing hosts Russia. Their last group stage match will be against Saudi Arabia on 25 June.
