The second edition of the Cairotronica festival will open on Saturday at the Palace of Arts on the Cairo Opera House grounds in Zamalek, to run until 13 May.
Cairotronica is an international symposium for electronic and media arts which aims to connect art with other disciplines and serve as a hub for art forms, including algorithmic art, digital art, digital performance art, electronic music/visual jockets, game art, generative design, generative music, information art, interactive art, internet art, video and experimental film and animation.
Under the theme of “A Future of Possibilities”, this year's festival brings includes an exhibition, alongside a programme of live performances, artist talks, workshops and screenings.
It features local and international artists, designers, academics scientists and technology experts, as stated in the event description.
Informed by a quote from Buckmister Fuller, “the best way to predict the future is to design it,” Cairotronica explores thoughts on the future and participates in the debate of whether it is predictable or not, while looking at how our contemporary creations can shape it.
The exhibition will include solo artists and artist duos including Mohamed Allam, Islam Shabana and Sidy Benamar, Zahara Muñoz and Ben Hardy, Stephane Degoutin and Gwenola Wagon, Nicolas Miagret and Maria Roszkowska, Marc Lee, and Sune Petersen.
The fifth round of Mapping Possibilities will also be part of the performances programme, in addition to two video art programmes curated by the Cairo Video Festival organiser Medrar Gallery to be held at Cimatheque.
The closing of the exhibition on 10 May will feature a performance titled Mykovaluta by Austrian artist Klaus Spiess and Lucie Strecker.
The full programme of events and workshops is yet to be announced by Cairotronica.
