The Osiris String Orchestra, led by Awtar Quartet, will perform at Hanager Theatre on 10 May, marking nascent orchestra's third concert. The concert is the result of a three-month workshop and rehearsals that began when the orchestra formed in 2015. The programme is mixture of western classical music, tango, as well as classic Arabic music and soundtracks from plays and films. Initiated by violinist Khaled Saleh, the Osiris String Orchestra was formed in cooperation and with the support of Osiris for Art Production and Training -- a center founded and managed by Omar Moataz Bellah -- to serve as a platform for amateur musicians. “[It is] the first ensemble to focus on amateur musicians, allowing them to develop their skills and giving them opportunities to perform,” as Fatma Khaled writes in her article for Ahram Online. Ten of those amateur musicians joined the Awtar Quartet, which itself consists of four Egyptian musicians: Yasser Ghoneim on first violin, Khaled Saleh on second violin, Essam Abdel Hamid on viola, and Mohamed Abdel Fattah on cello. There will be two performances on the same night, one at 6pm and the second at 8:30pm. Programme: 10 May at 6pm and at 8.30pm Hanager Theatre, Cairo Opera grounds, Zamalek, Cairo For more arts and culture news and updates, follow Ahram Online Arts and Culture on Twitter at @AhramOnlineArts and on Facebook at Ahram Online: Arts & Culture
