Ghana FA president said on Tuesday, Olympique Marseille's Ghanaian midfielder merits the title of African player of year which will be announced on Thursday at Accra.
The 22-year-old midfielder was named in the 2011 African footballer of the year's shortlist alongside Senegal's Moussa Sow, Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure, Cameroon's ace Samuel Eto'o AND Malian midfielder Seidou Keita.
“On merit I believe our player Andre Ayew deserves to win and we hope he will win based on his contributions to the Black Stars and his current performance at Olympique Marseille.” Kwesi Nyantakyi told Accra-based Pravda FM.
The Ghanaian midfielder presented a string of fine performance with the French giant Olympique de Marseille throughout the year helping the team to win the League Cup.
He added that: “As a young player, his achievements are worthy and more so he is the only Ghanaian among the short-listed players,” Ghana's FA boss concluded.
Andre Ayew was named on Friday as BBC African football player of the year.
