Ghanaian Akwaffo-Boateng ends Ittihad's five-match winless run Ittihad of Alexandria claim a narrow 1-0 victory over Talae El-Geish to end a five-match winless run in the Egyptian league
Ittihad of Alexandria, who survived relegation last season via a sudden change of regulations, returned to winning ways after securing a 1-0 victory over Talae El-Geish in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday. Ghanaian midfielder Francis Akwaffo-Boateng, who joined Ittihad in the close season, scored the winner 10 minutes after the interval after capitalizing on a defensive error from El-Geish's Beshir El-Tabie. It was Ittihad's first win since they defeated ENPPI 3-0 on 19 October. They moved into ninth place with 10 points from eight games. Elsewhere, Smouha continued their poor run under new coach Shawky Gharib after playing out a goalless draw with Petrojet, extending their winless streak to four matches under the guidance of the former Egypt assistant coach. Gouna claimed their second victory of the season after crushing El-Entag El-Harby 3-0 to move into sixth place in the table.
