Sudan are considering withdrawing from the Nile Basin friendly tournament, which will take place in Egypt in January, in protest at changes of its format. The tournament initially included six teams but the late addition of the Democratic Republic of Congo forced the Egyptian FA to alter its schedule. It will now be played over two groups, with Group A including four teams (Egypt, Tanzania, Burundi and Kenya) and Group B including three (Sudan, Uganda and DR Congo). Sudan were not content with the draw though, mainly because they were already drawn with Uganda in the African Nations Championship - a CAF tournament designed exclusively for African-based players. They could also face DR Congo in the same tournament, which will be played in Sudan in February. The Nile Basin tournament's organizing committee is set to convene to discuss the protest of Sudan. Cairo will host the competition from 5-17 January during a winter break for the Egyptian Premier League.
