Misfiring Zamalek held to 0-0 draw with Enppi to continue poor run
Published in Ahram Online on 31 - 01 - 2018

A misfiring Zamalek side continued their poor run after failing to break down Enppi in a 0-0 draw in a dull Egyptian Premier League game on Wednesday.
Gabonese striker Kabongo Kasongo was guilty of spurning Zamalek's best chances but the team were still lethargic going forward as they struggle to adapt to the attacking strategy of new coach Ehab Galal.
The draw prevented Zamalek from capitalizing on Masry's 0-0 draw with Wadi Degla earlier in the day as both vie with second-placed Ismaily for an African Champions League spot.
Zamalek lie fifth in the league table with 33 points, five behind third-placed Masry and nine adrift of Ismaily who occupy the Champions League place.
The White Knights have only won one out of five matches under Galal, suffering two defeats and drawing as many games.
Zamalek's starting line-up included three of their new signings - Ghanaian striker Nana Poku, winger Emad Fathi and midfielder Mohamed Antar, who made his debut after joining from Assiouty Sport.
However, none of them made a notable impact as Zamalek still struggled for creativity despite creating some goal-scoring chances in the first half.
All of their opportunities were wasted by Kasongo.
He had a header saved by the keeper after eight minutes and mis-hit his shot with the goal at his mercy after being released by a long ball from Antar three minutes later.
Kabongo also blasted high over after breaking clear following a defence-splitting pass on the stroke of halftime.
Enppi, who had a couple of half-chances in the first half, were barely troubled after the break.
They could have even snatched a win over Zamalek but a superb curling free-kick from Mohamed Magdi struck the woodwork nine minutes past the hour mark.
