Shakir Abdel Hamid was appointed minister of culture today, becoming the fourth culture minister since the outbreak of the 25 January revolution. “We aim to encourage the young and improve different sectors of the ministry of culture,” he told Ahram Online. “We also hope to modernise the Academy of Arts.” Abdel Hamid was appointed as the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Culture in mid August after the resignation of Ezzedine Choukri; he teaches at the Academy of Arts. He has published several studies on the relation between psychology and art and won the Jordanian Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Young Arab Scientists in humanities in 1990 and the State Award in social studies in 2003. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/28786.aspx
