Egypt's Omar Gaber joins Los Angeles FC from Basel on loan

Egypt's versatile defender Omar Gaber will complete a loan move to Los Angeles FC from Swiss giants Basel in January, both clubs announced on Tuesday.
Gaber will pen a one-year contract with the club that was founded in 2014, the Major League Soccer club said on their official website.
The 25-year-old will reunite with American boss Bob Bradley, who managed him during his tenure in charge of the Egyptian national team from 2011 to 2013.
"I loved working with all the Egyptian players, and had a great opportunity to get to know Omar during that time," Bradley told Los Angeles' website.
"He's always been admired by teammates and fans for his all-around contributions and willingness to give everything on the field."
Gaber joined Basel from Cairo side Zamalek in the summer of 2016, winning the Swiss league and cup double in his first season with the club.
However, he struggled to establish himself, having only made a total of 17 appearances. Gaber's versatility could be an asset for Los Angeles though, given his ability to play as a right or left back.
"Omar is an incredibly talented player whose pace, athleticism, and ability fit perfectly with the exciting team we are building here at LAFC," said LAFC General Manager and Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations John Thorrington.
"He is in the prime of his career and already has international and Champions League Experience. We are confident he will make our fans proud."
Gaber has made 18 appearances with Egypt since making his debut in 2011. He was part of the team's squad that reached the African Nations Cup final early this year, although he has not been used by Argentinean coach Hector Cuper.
