The Duhok International Film Festival in Iraq (9-16 September) is teaming up with the Goethe-Institut Irak to present a variety of short films from the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival (BIFF). Two short-film programmes will be on offer at Duhok, with all the films taken from the BIFF's Berlinale Shorts competition. The programmes comprising the Berlinale Spotlight were compiled by Maike Mia Höhne, curator of the BIFF Berlinale Shorts section. The cinematic mini-treats include: Cidade Pequena (Small Town) by Diogo Costa Amarante (Golden Bear for Best Short Film); Centauro (Centaur) by Nicolás Suárez (Honourable Mention); Martin Pleure (Martin Cries) by Jonathan Vinel; The Boy from H2 by Helen Yanovsky (Israel/Palestine); and Everything by David OReilly (USA/Ireland). According to the Duhok festival's website: "Berlinale Spotlight in Iraq invites audiences to discover the diversity and artistic innovation of the Berlinale Shorts section." The Duhok International Film Festival takes place by the banks of the River Tigris, in the majority Kurdish city of Duhok, in the far north of Iraq. The festival fifth edition includes numerous competitive sections, such as World Cinema, World Documentaries, Kurdish Cinema, Kurdish Documentaries, World Short, Kurdish Shorts. There are also non-competitive sections, such as Spotlight, Specials and Nuhat, showcasing films of first- and second-time Kurdish filmmakers.
