Art Alert: El-Beit magazine celebrates 17 years with exhibition of Al-Ahram's mural collection

El-Beit magazine will showcase murals from Al-Ahram's art collection in an exhibition titled Konooz El-Haram El-Rabea (Treasures of the Fourth Pyramid), which opens on 9 August at one of the organisation's downtown buildings.
Sawsan Morad, editor of El-Beit magazine, said in a press release that the exhibition is to celebrate 17 years since the founding of El-Beit and 142 since the founding of Al-Ahram. Morad says the exhibition reflects the organisation's long-time support of culture and art.
The exhibition is curated by artist Ehab El-Labban, and will include murals by Seif Wanly, Mounir Canaan, Sabry Mansour, Gazebiya Serry, Omar El-Nagdy, Ahmed Nawar, and Zeinab Abdel-Hamid, among other prominent Egyptian artists.
The artworks are large-scale pieces that adorn Al-Ahram's walls across its different floors and departments, exhibited to the public for the first time.
“The works are special because some of the artists created something different than their usual style, while others kept their signature style but it was different for them to create in this large scale,” Moard said.
“The exhibition shows how Al-Ahram organization throughout the years was not only a platform for ideas, bas has always played an important role in supporting art and Egyptian artists,” El-Labban added.
Morad stated that choosing El-Labban to curate the exhibition came after he curated the art exhibition at the recently opened Aisha Fahmy Palace.
“I believe that a specialized artist who has an academic background will add depth to the exhibition and understand the considerations of displaying the artworks. I felt El-Labban would the best person to do that,” commented Morad.
Programme:
The exhibition opens at 8pm on 9 August, runs until 20 August
