Egyptian champion swimmer Ahmed Akram has failed to reach the men's 800m freestyle final at the FINA World Championships in Budapest. Akram, 20, came in ninth place in the semi-final race on Tuesday, with a time of 7:51.41 minutes. Italy's Gergorio Paltrinieri came at the top of the heats, with a time of 7:45.31 minutes. Earlier on Tuesday, Egypt's Youssef El-Kamash failed to reach the final of the men's 50m breaststroke. He took 27th place in the semi-final heats, with 27.79 seconds. Britain's Adam Peaty came first at the heats, timing 26.10 seconds. On Monday, Egypt's Marwan El-Kamash failed to reach the men's 200m freestyle final after ending the semi-final in 16th place, timing 1:47.41 minutes. A day earlier, Farida Osman, 22, failed to reach the women's 100m butterfly semi-final after coming in 17th with a time of 58.67 seconds. The FINA World Championships – or World Aquatics Championships – are the main global competition for aquatic sports: swimming, diving, high-diving, open-water swimming, synchronized swimming, and water polo. The tournament runs from 14 to 30 July this year. Egypt is represented in the prestigious event by some of the country's swimming stars of recent years, notably Ahmed Akram, who finished fourth in the 1,500-metre freestyle at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships. Also competing is Farida Osman, who came fifth at the 2015 women's 50m butterfly final with a time of 25.78 seconds.
