Egypt's Farida Osman failed in her bid to qualify for the 100m butterfly final at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games early on Sunday after finishing 12th in the overall ranking of two semi-final heats. Osman, who finished fifth at last year's World Championships in Kazan to become the first Egyptian to reach a world final, could not match this feat at the Olympics after finishing fifth in her heat in 58.26 seconds. She already fared better in the qualifying round, finishing fourth in her heat in 57.83 seconds. Osman will have a chance to make amends when she takes part in the 50m freestyle contest next Friday.
