Egypt will be waiting for Olympic medals on Friday when medal contenders Azmy Mehelba, Farida Osman and Ahmed Akram compete in Shooting and Swimming respectively. The skeet shooting star Mehelba, who won the bronze medal in the last World Championship in Spain, will start his campaign at Rio in quest of a medal. Mehelba's dream is not far fetched since the 25-year-old has scored a record 125 out of 125 in Italy's skeet shooting Grand prix earlier this year. Swimmers Farida Osman and Ahmed Akram will reappear in the pool but this time in their specialties 50 m freestyle women and 1500 m men respectively. Osman has reached semi-finals of 100 m butterfly women event while Akram failed to pass the heats round in 400 m freestyle men. After registering Egypt's best-ever performance at the 2015 FINA World Championships when he finished fourth in the 1500 m, Akram is setting his sights on winning a medal and making it to the Olympics hall of fame. Osman will also be looking for a good performance the 50 m freestyle. The Egyptian finished in fifth place in the 50 m butterfly in last year's World Championship, but this event is unfortunately not olympic. At the age of 17, in her first Olympic appearance in London 2012, Osman finished 42nd with a time of 26.34 in the 50-metre freestyle. Today, the 21-year-old competes in the Rio 2016 Olympics with a higher level of maturity. Boxer Hossam Bakr 75 Kg will take on Dieudonne Seyi Ntsengue of Cameroon in the round of 16. An anticipated clash will take place on Friday when Egypt's Judoka Islam El-Shehaby faces Israeli player Or Sasson in the Judo +100 Kg round of 32. Several voices in Egypt had demanded the withdrawal of El-Shehaby from the game due to opposition among many Egyptians to normalisation of relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv . Egypt and Israel have signed a peace agreement in 1979, ending three decades of war.
