Zamalek to discuss future of coach Mohamed Helmi despite Cup win: Mansour
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 02 - 2017

The management of Zamalek football club will discuss the future of coach Mohamed Helmi in the coming hours, club president Mortada Mansour told Dream TV channel Friday evening.
Local reports had claimed that Zamalek's management sent a “thank you letter” to Helmi despite Friday's 2-0 victory over lower-tier Olympic in the Egypt Cup round of 32.
“I don't know anything. This is the first time I have heard these claims,” Helmi said at a press conference when asked if he had been sacked.
Shortly after guiding the team to clinching last week's Super Cup title from rivals Ahly, Helmi came under fire after Wednesday's league loss to El-Entag El-Harby.
Zamalek president Mortada Mansour harshly slammed the coach for his tactics against El-Entag, insisting that he is a stubborn.
Mansour told Dream TV after the Cup victory that “the technical staff could remain or leave. All possibilities are open, especially amid the current uncivil atmosphere between the players. The decision will be announced on Saturday.”
“I have the right to interfere and evaluate recent results and performance. What is happening is arrogance and carelessness.”
“The coach rested three key players against El-Entag El-Harby without a reason, and the result was the defeat that spoiled the celebrations with the Super Cup title,” Mansour said.
On 30 November, Zamalek reappointed the 54-year-old Helmi as head coach after sacking interim coach Mohamed Salah.
Zamalek currently lie third on the Egyptian league table with 34 points, 12 behind leaders Ahly, who played two more matches.
