Nigeria hires former defender Keshi as head coach Nigeria has hired former defender Stephen Keshi as the head coach of the national team after firing Samson Siasia last week following the failure to qualify for the African Cup of Nations
The Nigeria Football Federation appointed the 49-year-old Keshi on Wednesday. Keshi played as a sweeper and was captain when Nigeria made its World Cup debut in 1994. He played professionally in Belgium and formerly coached the national teams of Togo and Mali. Siasia told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he has filed a lawsuit accusing the federation of a breach of contract over his dismissal.
