Egyptian-Sudanese film to screen at Berlinale

The Egyptian-Sudanese film You Will Die at Twenty will participate in the Berlinale Co-Production Market, held between 12 and 15 February.
The film is also one of ten newcomers to the international film production scene who will be presenting their projects at the Talent Project Market.
The programme aims to provide the selected feature film projects with potential international co-producers, after a series of about 1200 one-on-one meetings between interested potential partners and producers.
Aside from these meetings, the films will also be competing for three awards: the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award, the VFF Talent Highlight Award and the ARTE International prize.
You Will Die at Twenty is a drama film directed by Amjad Abu Alala and produced by Hossam Elouan's Transit Films company.
The story is set in a Sudanese village in the 1960s, where Sufi beliefs are central to the villagers' lives, and which follows the life of young protagonist Muzamel, after a prophecy determines that he will die at the age of twenty.
Sudanese filmmaker Amjad Abu Alala was born in raised in the UAE and studied media at United Arab Emirates University.
Abu Alala has previously directed and produced a number of short films, some of which took part in film festivals, including Coffee and Orange (2004), Feathers of the Birds (2005), Tina (2009), and His Studio (2012).
He is currently head of the programming committee of the Sudan Independent Film Festival.
Transit Films is a Cairo-based production company established by producer Hossam Elouan, which specialises in the production of Egyptian and Arab art-house films.
You Will Die at Twenty is one of 36 selected promising feature film projects taking part in the section.
