Damien Chazelle's film La La Land will be screened at cinema Zawya starting today, Wednesday 4 January, continuing through Tuesday 10 January. The 2016 musical stars Ryan Gosling as Sebastian, a jazz pianist, who falls in love with aspiring actress Mia, played by Emma Stone. The classic musical storyline — a genre that seems to have all but faded from the big screen — is set in the beautiful city of Los Angeles, often given the nickname “La La Land." It was awarded Best Picture at the Toronto International Film Festival. La La Land is American director and screenwriter Damien Chazelle's third feature, following Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench (2009) and the award-winning independent drama film Whiplash (2014), which scooped three prizes at the 87th academy awards.
