Zamalek manager Soliman resigns, replaced by assistant Salah
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 11 - 2016

Moemen Soliman has resigned as Zamalek boss in the wake of chairman Mortada Mansour's scathing attack on the first-team's management following the 1-0 Egyptian league home victory over bottom side Tanta on Friday.
An unimpressive Zamalek side needed a first-half penalty from Shikabala to seal the win over the newcomers, as the hosts failed to add further goals despite playing with a numerical advantage for the majority of the second half.
The outspoken club chief did not waste time to berate the tactician right after the game, criticizing his selection decisions for the low-key tie, as assistant manager Mohamed Salah will now be taking charge of the first-team.
"Soliman's resignation has been accepted, assistant Mohamed Salah will replace him at the helm," Mansour said on Saturday.
"The assisting staff will all remain in their posts. We would like to thank Soliman for his contribution during the past period."
The resignation of Soliman, who guided Zamalek to a 3-1 Egypt Cup final victory over arch-rivals Ahly, is his second in the space of just two weeks, having also resigned following another unimpressive 1-0 win over Masry ahead of the international break.
Zamalek chairman Mansour had announced back then that the 42-year-old had stepped down after the Masry game, only to backtrack on his statements after holding a meeting with the team's management.
Things started not to go well with Soliman, who led Zamalek to four wins and a single draw in five league games, after losing the Champions League to Mamelodi Sundowns, who denied the five-time holders their first title since 2002.
