Egypt's Zamalek give coach Soliman vote of confidence after CAF Champions League loss
Published in Ahram Online on 24 - 10 - 2016

Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour has announced that the team's coach Moamen Soliman will continue in his position despite losing the CAF Champions League title to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.
"Soliman is a great coach and he will stay in his post until the end of the ongoing season," Mansour told a television programme late on Sunday.
Mortada Mansour used to change the team's technical staff after every big defeat as he did with former managers Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' and Alex McLeish last season but this time with current Egyptian coach Moamen Soliman, the Zamalek chairman gave a vote of confidence.
The Cairo giants failed to claim the CAF Champions League title after losing 3-1 on aggregate to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the tournament's final.
Early last week ahead of the first leg against Sundowns, Zamalek coach Moamen Soliman said he would leave his post if his side loses the African Champions League title.
"If I fail to clinch the African Champions League title, I will resign. I will not go to trainings and will resign by phone in order not to embarrass anyone," Soliman told an Egyptian TV programme on Monday.
Former Zamalek player in the 1990s, Soliman was initially hired as an interim coach following the sacking of Mohamed Helmi in late July, and has been tasked with restoring confidence in a side that lost the league title to archrivals Ahly.
Soliman quickly became the club's hero after guiding the team to win the Egypt Cup at the expense of Ahly before going through to the Champions League final. It was then decided that he would remain as the club's manager in late August.
