Autopsy said to confirm that Libyan leader was shot in the head, contradicting earlier government assertions that he died in the crossfire between revolutionary and loyalist forces in the lead up to his capture Libya's chief forensic pathologist says an autopsy has confirmed that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed by a shot to the head. Bloody images of Gaddafi being taunted and beaten by his captors in his hometown of Sirte have raised questions about whether he was killed in a crossfire, as suggested by the government, or deliberately executed. Dr. Othman Al-Zintani said doctors had completed the examination on Sunday. Al-Zintani declined to elaborate, however, until he had delivered a report to the attorney general. International concern about the issue clouded plans by Libya's new transitional government to declare the country's “liberation” on Sunday, after months of bloodshed amid a rebellion against the country's leader of nearly 42 years.
