Osama Abdel-Fattah, film critic and managing editor of Al-Ahram Al-Masaai (the evening paper), was selected as a member of the international critics jury at the 27th Carthage Film Festival of Tunisia. The festival opens on 28 October, and this year's edition marks the festival's golden jubilee celebrating five decades "in the service of Arab and African cinema," according to their website. The Carthage Film Festival is one of the oldest in the region, founded in 1966. The festival's main prize is the Golden Tanit, which is named after the Phoenician goddess of the same name. Distinguished personalities such as artists, writers, filmmakers and critics have been selected to jury the festival's official competitions. Other members of this year's jury include Turkish critic Nikati Sonmez, and Tunisian critic Lotfy bin Khalifa.
