British film Florence Foster Jenkins, starring American actress Meryl Streep and British actor Hugh Grant, will make its MENA premiere as part of the 38th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), which runs this year between 15 and 24 November. The film will screen at CIFF ahead of its Arab world release scheduled for 7 January 2017. Set in New York in 1944, the biographical comedy-drama tells the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, “a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice,” reads the film description on IMDb website. The film is directed by Stephen Frears, his second project after The Queen (2006), which scooped up 91 awards. The 38th CIFF is headed by Magda Wassef, with Youssef Cherif Rizkallah as its artistic director and Mahmoud Hemeda as its honorary president.
