Ferdinand dropped for England's final qualifier Fabio Capello has left veteran players Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard out of the squad for England's final Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro when just a point is required to reach the finals
While midfielder Gerrard has just returned from a six-month injury layoff, Ferdinand has featured in Manchester United's last three games but was also dropped for England's two qualifiers last month. Joleon Lescott has also been omitted from the defensive options, with Tottenham right back Kyle Walker named in the 24-man squad. In attack, Fulham's Bobby Zamora has been included at the expense of Tottenham's Jermain Defoe. If England is beaten by Montenegro it might have to go through a playoff to reach the European Championship finals.
