Shawcross named in England squad for Egypt friendly
Published in FilGoal on 28 - 02 - 2010

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has been included in England's squad for the friendly game against Egypt, hours after earning a red card for a challenge on Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey.
Shawcross, who was called up into England's squad for the first time, was sent off after his challenge left Ramsey with a horrific leg injury during Stoke's 3-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.
Everton's Leighton Baines and Stephen Warnock of Aston Villa are expected to vie for the left-back position as Ashley Cole misses out due to injury while Wayne Bridge ruled himself out of contention due to his personal differences with John Terry.
David Beckham, who is on loan at AC Milan from Los Angeles Galaxy, was also named in England's squad.
England will have to do without Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who is nursing a back injury.
The Three Lions host African champions Egypt at Wembley on Wednesday as part of their preparations for the World Cup, which will take place in South Africa in the summer.
England last met Egypt in the 1990 World Cup in Italy, beating them 1-0 through a goal from Mark Wright.
The squad:
Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham United), Joe Hart (Birmingham City)
Defenders: Wes Brown (Manchester United), James Milner (Aston Villa), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham United), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City), Leighton Baines (Everton), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa)
Midfielders: David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Stewart Downing (Aston Villa)
Forwards: Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Peter Crouch (Tottenham Hotspur), Carlton Cole (West Ham United).
