Mohamed Zidan said he believes Broussia Dortmund had the upper hand during their 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal in Tuesday's Champions League group stage opener.
“When we were behind at halftime, I told our trainer that we have fought 365 days of being in the Champions League, so we should do our best,” Zidan told TV2 Sport.
“We also played better after the break and came up with several endings. We could have settled the match and gained the victory, but we are happy with a draw,”
Dortmund created several goal-scoring opportunities but Arsenal were the ones who took the lead, thanks to a goal from Dutch striker Robin van Persie three minutes before the break.
Egyptian international Zidan started on the bench before coming on as a substitute with five minutes remaining, replacing Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa.
It was the first ever Champions League appearance for the 29-year-old striker, who snubbed Egyptian champions Ahly in the close season to play in Europe's elite club competition.
Fellow substitute Ivan Perisic notched the equalizer in the 88thminute with a superb volley to secure a share of spoils.
